Yuman offers a new consumer experience for circular economy products and services: one-stop shopping
Today, when you want to shop responsibly, you often have to go to several shops to find your favourite sustainable and ethical products. In Brussels, Belgium, for example, a wide range of responsible products are available, but they are dispersed around the city obliging you to travel all over the city to get them and this takes time.
The Yuman project was developed based on this observation. Brussels now has chips and beer ... and the first circular shopping centre! This shopping centre is in a former garage located in the heart of a very commercial area. The building has been upcycled and accommodates 1,200 m2 of commercial space dedicated to responsible consumption and the circular economy; the furniture and furnishings of the shopping centre have all been recovered as well.
One-stop shopping and new sociability
Yuman offers a new consumer experience for circular economy products and services: one-stop shopping, based on the historic concept of supermarkets (‘everything under one roof’). Yuman gives customers the possibility of buying most products in the same place, reducing trips around the city.
With the growing popularity of the zero-waste concept, the idea of this centre is to network consumers looking for more responsibility and innovative entrepreneurs. In addition to promoting responsible consumption, the project facilitates networking between entrepreneurs, project and idea sponsors to stimulate emulation, creation, and the emergence of new sustainable products and services.
In the medium term, in addition to shopping, conferences and zero waste workshops will also be available, among other things.
Yuman has everything
Yuman offers everything that a conventional shopping centre offers: clothing, accessories, linen, decoration, cosmetics, leisure ideas, furniture, rental services for objects and clothing, books, CDs/DVDs… and even something to eat.
In circular economy version, this means eco-designed products, zero waste, second-hand, short circuits, rental… To choose their partners, the founders respect three principles: the products and services must be sustainable and circular; they must come from local initiatives, where possible; and, finally, they must be aesthetic and of good quality in order to prolong the product’s life.
