The publishing house Pequeño Editor has come up with a first – a book that can be planted. After reading, plant it and like magic it will grow into a beautiful tree!
Books come from trees. But what if trees came from books? A simple but unusual concept from Pequeño Editor. This Argentinean children's book publishing house has created the Tree Book Tree, a collection of fully biodegradable books. The "tree-books" are made with acid-free recycled paper and environmentally friendly ink - the covers contain the seeds of the jacaranda, a typical South American tree. Once children have read the book, they can plant it, water it and then watch it become beautiful flamboyant blue-flowered tree.
The aim of Tree Book Tree is to give children a love of reading and get them thinking about the environment. Mi Papá Estuvo en la Selva (My Father was in the Jungle), written and illustrated by the Argentineans Gusti and Anne Decis, is the first book in the collection. It depicts life in the Ecuadorian rainforest, as told by a little boy.
